The World Through my Lens
Petya Bartosch
Petya Bartosch is a passionate South African photographer with a special interest in documenting different cultures and ways of living. Petya graduated from the Stellenbosch Academy of Design and Photography, majoring in photography, before joining the FROST Photo Tours team. She spent a year exploring traditional healing practices across the African continent due to her Ankylosing Spondylitis diagnosis and desire to move away from Western medication. This personal project resulted in beautiful, raw connections with healers and communities in remote areas of West Africa, South Sudan and Namibia. Petya runs Bartosch Foundation a nonprofit in Masiphumelele informal settlement in Cape Town and over the past 5 years her camera has joined her on many adventures as she formed meaningful relationships with families and children in her Sunday educational program. “I wish to show the pure joy found in South Africa and challenge stereotypes about life inside a township. There is love, talent and beauty in Masi that very few people have seen. I hope to celebrate and honour the relationships I have built slowly in the community through my passion for photography.”
